"Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.
Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves."

Quick Overview: The Lightning Thief was a fun enticing read. The level of information about the Greek Gods made it fun, entertaining and slightly educational.
This was a great children's book. It was fun, light, entertaining and educational. Rick Riordan takes the ancient history of the Greek gods and forces them into a terrible struggle. He builds great characters with very believable backgrounds, then gives them conflict and sends them on their way.
Now, because I watched the movie first(DO NOT DO, It doesn't even compare) I think the beginning was a little slow for me because I already knew what was going to happen and what all the mystery was. It was still easy to read, but I wanted to get through it to the good part.
It was hard for me to put The Lightning Thief down. For some reason I couldn't identify I was so eager to read on, even though I basically knew how it ended from the movie. I literally read it all day yesterday, even though I was at my boyfriends house. Definitely pick this book up if you haven't, it is one of those books you will want to have in your collection.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I know it had turned some of my friends off from reading the books :( !!
ReplyDeleteI really love the series and I'm glad you enjoyed the book! The others are worth the read.
One of the things I love best about the books are Riordan's description of monsters without saying blatantly telling the reader what it is. He doesn't label his beasties without first creating a picture in the mind.

ReplyDeleteI started this book but just could not get in to it. people say it is the NEW Harry Potter but from what I have read of it, it is nothing like Harry Potter.
ReplyDeleteI read this book, and it just wasn't for me. I agree with daydreamerN...this it not even in the same league as Harry Potter. BUT for some unknown reason...I also finished it in one sitting. werid huh?
ReplyDeleteI loved this book. Luke is my favorite though out the series. I'm not sure why everything has to be the new "Twilight" or "Harry Potter." I think this book was excellent and I actually liked the movie lol (Jake Abel had a LOT to do with that, did I mention Luke was my favorite?).
