"In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister Primrose, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before — and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love"

REVIEW:
Really, what is there to say about The Hunger Games. Many people who would even be viewing this blog have already picked up, devoured, and loved this book along with the rest of the series. So I don't need to convince you that this book is amazing, but in case you haven't, please, go pick this series up.I think that the thing about this book is that there is something for everyone whether they are female or male. It has romance, tons of action, a twisting and menacing plot, great character development, backstory, really anything. And it is also set in a dystopian setting as well for all you fans of that.
You can't help but fall in love with Katniss as she begins her journey. She has so much emotion, yet for very obvious reasons she is skilled on being cold and hard, even in her own mind. And when you add Peeta and Gale to the mix, you have something that nearly every Ya'er goes crazy and makes t-shirts and buys countless team merchandise over: a love triangle. And this one is actually a real life, honest to goodness, really sensible love triangle. Not just, ooo, here are two boys that think I'm the bees knees, which one will I choose? You? No, you? NO, YOU! Which can get really annoying to readers.
The writing in this book is also amazing. I will definitely read any YA or adult series that Collins writes, because she has such a way to send you into the stories, and when you look up with a throbbing headache and bellyache from not eating and staring into words for several hours without knowing it, you can rest assured that it is a good book.
So, for those of you that have read it, re-read it before the movie comes out and ruins your own personal image of it. It is just as good the second, or third time around. And for those of you that haven't, get out from under your rock and pick this baby up! You won't be disappointed!
